A whopping £7,600 was raised at a CannonBall Run-themed fundraising event in January, held at the Black Horse pub, Fulmer, in memory of Carol Shipp who passed away at Michael Sobell Hospice in December last year.

The fun rally saw cars rev off from outside the pub to undertake a 70-mile round trip, ending up back to base for a spectacular auction and raffle with prizes including Arsenal FC match tickets, memorabilia signed by Sir Roger Moore, a suite at The Dorchester Hotel plus dinner and an overnight stay at The Crazy Bear!

The event, organised by Carol’s daughter, Natalie Lane, Andrew Wood and Richard Walker even saw a 1946 Bedford Bus join the party (the year Carol was born) – a poignant touch.

Commenting on the fundraiser, Natalie said: “It was a fantastic day and I would like to say a huge thank you to The Black Horse pub who kindly hosted the event. We couldn’t have done it without your support.”

MSHC Events Manager Ophelia Chambers-Henry, who accepted the donation on behalf of Michael Sobell Hospice, added: “On behalf of everyone involved with Michael Sobell Hospice, thank you so much for this wonderful donation. It certainly will go a long way to ensuring local people and their families are supported when they need it most.”
