Elizabeth’s Story

Elizabeth was first admitted to Michael Sobell Hospice in March 2020 with pain and sickness. With medication, holistic care and a blood transfusion, she felt well enough to go home which delighted both her and her family. Six weeks later, Elizabeth was re-admitted to the Hospice and the team were very pleased to be able to get her symptoms under control once again and support her to return home to her daughter Dupé.

Before retiring Elizabeth had been a Nurse, first at home in Nigeria and then here in the UK where she worked at several major London hospitals. Although she had experienced a great deal of racism which slowed her career progression, she gained her degree and was promoted to Sister at the prestigious St Thomas’s and Royal Marsden Hospitals. She retained her sense of humour throughout her time with us and is shown here wearing a Nurse In Charge armband prior to her discharge from the Hospice.

Elizabeth’s daughter, Dupé said of her Mum’s stay at Michael Sobell Hospice: ‘The Hospice Team eased Mum’s pain and gave her hope again to live a little longer’.
