The Pastiche Musical Theatre company, based in Hillingdon is celebrating twenty years of performances at the end of March with a production of Jerry Herman and Michael Stewart’s hit musical Hello, Dolly! just as a major revival (starring Bette Midler in the title role) opens on Broadway. The show will be performed at The Compass Theatre in Ickenham from 29 March – 1 April.
Hello, Dolly! is the story of Mrs. Dolly Levi’s efforts to marry Horace Vandergelder, the well-known half-a-millionaire, and send his money circulating among the people like rainwater the way her late husband, Ephraim Levi, taught her. Along the way she also succeeds in matching up the young and beautiful Widow Molloy with Vandergelder’s head clerk, Cornelius Hackl; Cornelius’ assistant, Barnaby Tucker, with Mrs. Molloy’s assistant, Minnie Fay; and the struggling artist, Ambrose
Kemper, with Mr. Vandergelder’s weeping niece, Ermengarde. The show’s memorable songs include “Put On Your Sunday Clothes,” “Before the Parade Passes By,” “Elegance,” and the glorious title song “Hello, Dolly!” which was immortalised by Louis Armstrong.
Since the theatre group was formed in January 1997 they have staged a full musical and a concert each year with the proceeds from each production being donated to a charity or organisation which has been selected by the cast. Pastiche has raised in excess £50,000 for over thirty different organisations and charities. Pastiche are hopeful that their total fundraising efforts will break the £55,000 barrier during their production of Hello, Dolly! By a wonderful coincidence, this years production of Hello, Dolly! will be the 40th production it has staged and its chosen charity for the ticket sales proceeds is Michael Sobell Hospice which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. The company are thrilled to be celebrating twenty years of performing and raising money for so many worthy causes. Pastiche Musical Theatre is affiliated to Hillingdon Arts Association.
