The Day Centre is an integral part of Michael Sobell Hospice.
Its aim is to support patients with palliative care needs, to enable them to maintain their independence in a safe and supported environment, and to provide help for their carers.
The team is made up of a sister, registered nurses, creative arts counsellor, complementary therapist and volunteers. Other members of Michael Sobell Hospice staff, such as the patient and family support team, occupational therapist, and physiotherapist can be accessed depending on a patient's needs, be they physical, social or psychological.
The Day Centre team can provide advice on symptom control, as well as counselling, complementary therapies, creative arts as therapy, crafts and outdoor activities. A number of clinical procedures are also undertaken within the Day Centre.
To ensure the best level of care the Day Centre team work collaboratively with community services (GPs, Macmillan Nurses and District Nurses). It is not our aim to replace community services but to enhance the advice and support each patient receives.
Referrals to the Day Centre can be made by any member of your healthcare team.
