Complementary Therapies at Michael Sobell Hospice are offered free to all inpatients, day therapy unit patients and out patients and to their carers.
The aim is to support both carers and patients, during an often challenging time, by providing a means of relaxation, relief from stress and stress related symptoms and release from physical and emotional tension.
Referrals can be made by any member of staff at Michael Sobell Hospice, the Mount Vernon Cancer Centre or by a community healthcare professional.
Treatments are usually between 20-30 minutes. At your first session you will have a consultation with your therapist who will ask you a series of questions to determine if you have any condition which may require a therapy to be adapted or prevent you having a particular therapy. Therapies typically take place in one of the therapy rooms at Michael Sobell Hospice. However in-patients may have a treatment at their bedside or can remain in bed if more appropriate.
Outpatient appointments are particularly aimed at carers and patients who are not in-patients or do not attend the day therapy unit. We normally offer 6-8 sessions and these usually last 45 minutes.
Current therapies on offer include:
- Indian Head Massage

The complementary therapies offered are intended to complement conventional medical treatment. They are not alternative treatments and are not intended to replace medical treatments, including any treatment aimed at tumour reduction such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy or hormone treatment.
