Sporty Steve Hopkins has set his fundraising challenge high as he aims to take on an epic cycle ride, that will see him pedalling 969 miles in just nine days from Land’s End to John O’Groats for the Deloitte RAB 2017 event – all in support of Northwood-based Michael Sobell Hospice.
As a keen cyclist, Steve is embarking on a 50-mile training ride every week as part of getting limbered up for the big day, setting off on Saturday 9th September, as well as a 125k Tour of Cambridgeshire, with the Prudential Ride London challenge coming up next month on Sunday 30th July!
Commenting on why he has chosen to support Michael Sobell Hospice, Steve said: “My Mum sadly passed away on the 30th January this year after an eight-month fight with secondary bone cancer – a heart-breaking loss for all our family. Early support was provided by Macmillan, but as Mum’s condition worsened, we spent more and more time at Michael Sobell. The Hospice and the team of people has a unique and special way of making your darkest and hardest times somehow more bearable. This is why I am now focusing on trying to support the Hospice in any way I can.”
Michael Sobell Hospice is celebrating its 40th anniversary year in 2017 – four decades of providing specialist palliative care and support to local people facing life-limiting illness and their families.
